Reporting to the Director of Care, the Educator / RAI MDS Lead designs, implements, evaluates, and revises educational and continuing education programs for staff. The Educator / RAI MDS is responsible for supporting a long term care home through integration and sustainment of Resident Assessment Instrument-RAI process which allows for the compilation and reporting of Resident Care Outcomes and corresponding funding requirements.

Key Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Director of Care:

  • Communicate routinely with site management to ascertain training needs and coordinate, develop and facilitate educational and development programs to meet these needs;
  • Identifies the educational and training needs in the facility to ensure quality of care and services;
  • Designs, develops and coordinates the delivery of Staff Development Programs to meet these needs;
  • Ensures good resident outcome and satisfaction through training needs of staff;
  • Develops general orientation and ongoing educational programs based on learning needs of staff;
  • Communicates the planned program to encourage participation, involvement and support;
  • Provides programs to enhance the working life and increase knowledge and esteem of the staff;
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and quality of Staff Development Program against appropriate objectives and standards;
  • Receives feedback from staff and department heads on training programs;
  • Monitors new technology, trends in the delivery of each service and ensures staff are trained appropriately
  • Maintains staff attendance in-service records and quality management activities for the program;
  • Performs clinical teaching sessions on the units as needed;
  • Responsible for teaching health and safety issues such as WHMIS, lifts and transfers and back care in consultation with the Head Office and the Health & Safety Consult;
  • Responsible to carry out legislated duties for health and safety as per the certification training program;
  • Providing onsite computer-based education and support to all appropriate staff members as a component of staff orientation and regular reviews;
  • Managing the coordination of MDS 2.0 assessments, and Care Planning using CAPs alongside the MDS RAI Coordinator;
  • Assisting MDS RAI Assessors to correctly code assessments and providing ongoing support for validation of coding;
  • To coordinate staff participation in AIS Systems Learning Center to promote capacity building and staff competency.
  • Working with the MDS RAI Coordinator to identify educational opportunities based on coding accuracy audits;
  • Providing ongoing leadership and mentoring for education, data accuracy, data submission and various computer applications;
  • In consultation with interdisciplinary team members, developing and implementing a data quality program to ensure data accuracy and integrity, efficient data collection, assessment completion appropriate data utilization;
  • Overseeing Quality Indicators according to LTC policies, provincial and regional regulations, professional colleges, Standards of Practice and inter-RAI requirements;
  • Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Revera’s Code of Conduct;
  • Completing all other duties as assigned.



  • Current regulated either LPN, RN and or equivalent would be considered;
  • A minimum of three (3) years clinical, project leadership or management experience (preferred);
  • Good motivational and time management skills, good inter-departmental; communications and leadership skills are necessary;
  • The ability to work with and relate to interdisciplinary team members and other internal stakeholders;
  • Knowledge and experience with adult education strategies/facilitation;
  • Previous experience presenting to groups;
  • Completion or working towards a course in adult education at the community college level is considered an asset;
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule, including daytime, evenings and some night shifts;
  • Demonstrated success leading new initiatives;
  • Demonstration of strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Clear aptitude for detail-oriented work and strong problem solving abilities
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills;
  • Current knowledge of MDS 2.0, Point Click Care and Point Of Care are preferred;
  • Minimal 1 year experience in the RAI Coordinator role (preferred);
  • Previous experience in teaching the RAI process including coaching and mentoring staff (preferred);
  • Strong problem solving abilities;
  • Proficient computer skills;
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
