Reporting to the Director of Property Development, the Manager of Property Development will contribute to the growth strategy for our current and future property portfolio.  This role will be responsible for managing the design and municipal approval process for new developments, to ensure municipal approvals are on target for timely delivery. 

The successful candidate will direct the planning and entitlement process, design development, tendering and contract management of multiple real estate development projects within timeline, scope and budget. In addition, this role will be the key driver of the project design team (Architects, External Planners and Engineers).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and oversee negotiations with Towns/Cities and any other applicable government and municipal authorities, and co-ordinate the preparation of applications for permits in respect thereof;
  • Manage relationships with development partners;
  • Prepare, revise, maintain, and update a master schedule for the completion of work;
  • Establish a final overall development budget with input from the Revera development team for implementation of developments based upon the design program, and present the budgets to the VP, Property Development for approval;
  • Maintain project schedules, prepare timely updates or revisions to project schedules and take responsible measures to co-ordinate and phase retirement home design services;
  • Manage the evaluation of bids, proposals, quotations in preparation with recommendations;
  • Assist in the preparation of the design program for new developments;
  • Oversee construction coordination services and resolution of any on-site disputes through meetings and monitoring of the prime contractor and consultants;

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in commercial real estate with an emphasis on the real estate development planning process
  • Education in urban planning, architecture, engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of Official Plans, zoning by-laws, Ontario planning legislation, the Planning Act and development processes and policies
  • Strong analytical, evaluation, planning and project management skills
  • Experience in contract negotiation and administration
  • Ability to exhibit personal leadership through influence
  • Proven track record for building successful partnerships and interacting with a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of investment and finance principals
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency, and a strong team spirit
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office applications), Eclipse PM software
  • Willingness to travel across Canada
  • Must be self-motivated and experienced in running complex projects with a fair degree of autonomy
  • Experience in Vancouver or Ottawa markets an asset
  • Experience in the senior housing industry is considered an asset
